Subtle usually isn’t Steve Smith’s style. He tends to let you know what he’s thinking pretty clearly. But sometimes it’s tough to be completely sure if the former Panthers wideout is taking one of his not-so-thinly-veiled shots, or if his words are just being dissected too closely. Before we get too far into a week featuring the most emotionally charged former-player ‘reunion’ in Panthers history, let’s revisit a moment from this past Sunday. After Smith caught a 32-yard pass to set the Ravens up for their eventual winning field goal in Cleveland, he raved about Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco’s presence in pressure situations.“It’s been refreshing to come in here, and the quarterback, the huddle, is calm. That makes it so much easier to concentrate and do your job,” Smith said. But before that he admitted, “The way I grew up, I’ve always worked well in chaos.”So while most could assume Smith was taking a dig at the quarterbacks he’s played with before Baltimore, perhaps he was doing nothing more than praising Flacco.Or maybe it was just 89 being 89.You can judge for yourself by watching the video at this link.
