Health Watch
- DE Kony Ealy is in the concussion protocol after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit late in Saturday's practice.
- WR Stephen Hill returned after he missed Saturday’s practice with soreness in his surgically repaired knee. Hill made a couple of catches in team drills with the second-team offense.
- WR Kelvin Benjamin and DE Charles Johnson both had a veteran's day off.
- RB Jonathan Stewart returned after taking a vet day on Saturday.
Play of the Day
On the first snap of 11-on-11s, LB Shaq Thompson picked off QB Cam Newton on a well-thrown pass intended for WR Brenton Bersin on an out route. Much like his interception from Saturday’s practice, Thompson was able to gather the ball with one hand near the sideline before sliding out of bounds.
Player Notes
- QB Cam Newton didn't have his best day. His first interception was mostly a good play by Thompson, but later, S Kurt Coleman grabbed a pick on a poor throw by Newton.
- RB Cameron Artis-Payne stoned LB Ben Jacobs during pass protection drill, which earned Artis-Payne a pat on the helmet by running backs coach Jim Skipper. Later, Artis-Payne found himself wide open on a hot read and went about 40 yards after hauling in a short pass from QB Derek Anderson
- TE Scott Simonson drew big cheers from the offense when he finished off a full-fledged pancake block on LB A.J. Klein during pass protection drills.
- TE Ed Dickson beat the defense for a touchdown pass from Newton on the first play of the second 11-on-11 drill.
- TE Braxton Deaver adjusted on a pass from QB Joe Webb to make a diving over-the-shoulder catch before falling out of bounds.
- OT David Foucault hit the turf after being popped by LB Ben Jacobs in 9-on-7s.
- OT Mike Remmers and DE Ryan Delaire had a good battle in 1-on-1s. Delaire’s spin move initially beat Remmers, but a good secondary block helped him recover.
- OT Daryl Williams took the full brunt of a Delaire bullrush, but stood his ground in 1-on-1s.
- DE Larry Webster snuffed out a reverse to WR Devin Funchess for what would have been a big loss.
- CB Daryl Worley broke up a pass intended for WR Devin Funchess by reaching around the receiver and swatting the ball away from his midsection.
- WR Damiere Byrd and Bersin each dropped catchable passes during the team portion of practice. The pass intended for Byrd was near the sideline about 25 yards downfield. CB Lou Young had good coverage, but Byrd had the ball hit off his hands. Bersin’s drop came on a crossing route, on a ball that was thrown a bit behind him by Newton.
Random Nuggets
- Because it's training camp, several miscues are expected. The offense has its fair share Saturday, highlighted by Newton's interceptions. But the usually dependable C Ryan Kalil had one snap go over Newton's head, and later, Newton and RB Jonathan Stewart botched a handoff that ended up on the ground.
- With 10 training camp practices left, the Panthers are already 70 percent to last year's record-breaking attendance total. According to the Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, the first four practices have drawn 54,224 fans.
