Many of the Carolina Panthers have previously played against Peyton Manning, but none grew up in his family's shadow like guard Trai Turner.
The Mannings are New Orleans' football royalty, so it's special for another native son to play the most famous Manning in the Super Bowl. And even though Turner won't be on the field at the same time as Peyton and the Broncos' offense, to face him in what may be his last rodeo is better.
"For me, to be from New Orleans, to know the history behind (the Mannings), to know the history behind Peyton, and to possibly beat him in the Super Bowl? Come on, man," Turner said.
When Turner was born in the summer of 1993, Manning was across town getting ready for his senior year at Isidore Newman School. 22 years later, one is destined for the Hall of Fame and both are Pro Bowlers.
"He's a huge star to me. Just to be able to be on the same field with him, that's a big deal," Turner admitted. "Not many can say, 'I was on the same field as Peyton Manning.' They can say, 'I watched the game, I went to the game, I caught his armband.'
"Man, I've played against Peyton Manning. Who can say that? Not many people."
Turner isn't gushing as much as he is respecting. Besides, the kid wants what the old guy's already had.
"Peyton had his time," Turner said with a laugh. "It's time for me to get a ring."
