A look at Carolina Panthers-related news and nuggets from around the web.
Greg Cosell of Yahoo Sports breaks down the tape to show how the Panthers beat the Seahawks:
Offensively, the Panthers ran their typical multiple run game, which is the closest to a college-based offense in the NFL. They showed a read option/triple option concept on the second play.Late in the first quarter they had another play with multiple run concepts in the same play, as Newton ran for 8 yards on a play that was a jet sweep and quarterback power. The Panthers used a lot of triple option in the first quarter. They ran an unbalanced line on their first touchdown drive. They’re very creative in the run game.

Cat Scratch Reader’s ‘CanadianPanther’ takes an in-depth look at Sunday’s game-winning drive:
How did the Carolina Panthers move the ball 80 yards through the air against the Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom”? It was really a combination of creative play calling from Offensive Coordinator Mike Shula, and fantastic execution from the offense.
The offensive line held up (for the most part), the receivers found holes in the Seahawks’ zone coverage, and Cam Newton displayed fantastic pocket awareness and footwork, along with great touch and accuracy on his passes.

Adam Rhew of Charlotte Magazine profiles Cam Newton:
After his football career ends, Newton would like to open day care centers, maybe a whole chain. He wants the centers to be fun and exciting and safe. “My passion is reaching and touching the youth,” Newton says. “I know football can only allow me so much joy; I can only play this game at this level for so long. But forever, I can experience the joy of being around kids and trying to make those guys better.”

David Newton of ESPN.com offers reasons why the Panthers can win the Super Bowl:
Most teams that win the Super Bowl do so because the quarterback is playing at a high level. Five of the past six MVPs in the title game, and 27 of the 49 MVPs overall, were quarterbacks. Newton is playing at a high level, particularly when it counts. His Total Quarterback Rating for the fourth quarter is 94.1, which ranks second in the NFL. He had a fourth-quarter rating of 98.9 in Sunday’s come-from-behind win at Seattle. As Carolina coach Ron Rivera has said often this season, Newton is playing his most complete football.

Chris Chase of USA Today says the Panthers are the best team in the NFC:
So if we’re talking hypothetical top NFC teams, why not the Packers, who have an even better record (6-0, one game better than Carolina, which already had its bye) and some guy named Rodgers? Well, in a January game at Lambeau, you’d be stupid not to take the Pack. But right now, going to Seattle and getting a win >>> only avoiding overtime against the San Diego Chargers because Philip Rivers missed a wipe open Danny Woodhead. Also, I’d take Carolina over Green Bay in a playoff game in Charlotte because, again, they’re the best team in the NFC.
Max Henson of Panthers.com shares insight from defensive coordinator Sean McDermott:
“Great players make the players around them better,” defensive coordinator Sean McDermott said. “Luke is a great player.”
In his first game back after suffering a concussion in the season opener, Kuechly played every single defensive snap. And the Panthers counted on him to contain powerful running back Marshawn Lynch, who was limited to 54 yards on 17 carries.
“It was a great matchup watching Luke against Marshawn in certain situations,” McDermott said. “We knew that was going to be the case. One of our best on one of their best. That’s how we schemed it. I thought Luke won those matchups.”

BleacherReport.com provides early betting odds and analysis of the Panthers vs. Eagles matchup:
The Panthers are the real deal, and their defense will make Bradford look terrible yet again. While the Eagles will look to feed Murray the ball, Carolina will make sure he doesn’t get going like he did against the Giants. Look for the Panthers to limit Philly’s offense and roll to another win and cover to stay perfect this season.

And finally, NFL.com’s Gil Brandt is a big fan of the Panthers’ other coordinator:
When people are looking for a head football coach, be sure to look at Mike Shula, the OC for the Carolina Panthers.
