Give him a “mid season-bonus” and see how he handles the money.
It would show the team (and the league) how he handles himself with cash in his accounts. It would also demonstrate good faith on the part of the Panthers.
How much/when is something for the Panthers to determine.

I’d be on board with that.

Gettleman’s prudent ways will let us fans watch another 4 year development project turned All Pro walk right out the door…. what’s the point in drafting guys with potential, developing them into some of the league’s best, and let them walk out the door to another team?

    • Eric

Besides Hardy, what significant talent is he letting walk? We just resigned Cam, Luke, Olsen, and TD…
Letting Hardy walk was due to an off-the-field issue. G-Man’s “prudent ways” are mostly forced due to our salary cap situation, which is mainly from the Hurney contracts.

Capt Munnerlyn, who is right now ranked the #9 corner in the league.. granted undersized, he played a big role on our D. Brandon Lafell could’ve been helpful this year as well as last, Ted Ginn (but we got him back), we lost several players from that 12-4 team.. Mike Mitchell? I understand not overspending on players, but if Gman doesn’t get a deal done with Norman then we’ll see.. hopefully he does, but you never know with him.

        • Eric

I liked all those players, but its arguable that all of them signed contracts higher than what they were worth. Hopefully by passing on those players we can keep Norman. I think sometimes the GM just has to see where the market is and make tough choices. Obviously Arizona felt they overspent on Ginn, and Mitchell’s contract is extremely questionable.
G-Man needs to keep Norman in the fold.

Hey you’re right, I mean we couldn’t match AZ on Ginn.. but they both learned very quickly that Ginn was a better fit here. I would be surprised if Ginn played anywhere else the rest of his career. He wants to be here and we know how to get the most out of him. Mitchell was a product of our system and benefited from playing behind out beast front 7.. he got too much in Pitt and we couldn’t match, but I bet he wishes he would’ve stayed. I agree with your points 100% – outside of the Steve Smith decision I’ve been pretty happy with Gettleman and his all business like approach.. that’s what we’ve needed for awhile. But Norman is a guy we CANNOT let go, especially after everything we’ve been through with him. He’s always had the talent, but our coaching staff are the one’s who brought it out of him and a big reason why he’s playing like he is this season. We HAVE to keep him.

There is a reason he was not signed to an extension and I’m guessing its similar to why they did not sign Hardy to a long term deal and instead used the Franchise Tag . We can always put the Franchise Tag on him and see how that plays out.
