Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

Cam Newton Says* He’ll ‘Destroy the Broncos’ (*He Didn’t, Though)

Whether you think it's fair Cam Newton has faced criticism for dancing, pouting on a podium or wearing a towel on his head, at least all those things have happened.

So this is a story of how the Internet is truly making people more stupid.

A Denver website on Tuesday uncovered some interesting comments. According to imfromdenver.com, Newton recently said this "on a Carolina sports podcast":

“They caught me off guard, I wasn’t ready mentally, it was my first super bowl appearance come’on guys. Next season I will destroy the Broncos because I will be ready for them this time and they probably won’t have the same defense either. They won’t be so lucky next time we meet.”

Oooh ... them's fightin' words!

Of course, if you've paid any attention to Newton since he's been in Carolina, you know he doesn't offer bulletin board material. He gets his clichés mixed up at times, but he's not foolish enough to talk junk publicly. And if he did, it'd hopefully be less cheesy than "I will be ready for them" and "they won't be so lucky next time."

Strangely enough, when you click on the linked source of Newton's comments — our friends at Carolina Cat Chronicles — a podcast featuring Newton isn't there.

Because this is potential Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism, let's do a little more research.

Perhaps the "about" section of "I'm From Denver" will clearly reveal it's a site that jokes around, does parodies, etc.

Nope:

I’m From Denver was created to be a place where natives could come and see what’s going on in the Mile High city. Get all your local news, read interesting stories, and checkout our guides to Colorado Adventures both Outdoors and Nightlife. Connect with the I’m From Denver community.

So what we have here is a supposedly legitimate site making up quotes that are now quickly spreading across the Broncos' fan base. Facebook and Twitter pages are up in arms. As of late Tuesday afternoon, the post itself has received more than 400 comments that are, let's say, less than pleased with Newton.

None of this is all that important, obviously, and I hate sending clicks to a site that's clearly just trying to generate them. But as dumb as all this is, it's not hard to imagine a reporter in Denver bringing up these "quotes" to the Broncos ahead of their game with Newton and the Panthers next season.

Perhaps everything we read on the Internet isn't true after all?

First I will say check out the C3 Podcast. Second, I’d love for Newton to come on…I’ll say the stomp Denver stuff for him.

Good publicity for the C3 podcast 🙂
    People love to hate Cam…

Does this mean he won’t jump away from a fumble next time?
