Cam Newton Drops to No. 73 on ‘Top 100 Players’ List

A tumultuous 2014 sent Cam Newton tumbling down the NFL Network’s “Top 100 Players” list. The Panthers quarterback landed at No. 73 when the latest group of rankings were revealed Wednesday night._EBX1541It’s Newton’s all-time lowest placement in the vote, which is taken annually from current players. Last spring, he came in at No. 24, in 2013 he was No. 46, and a year before that, he debuted at No. 40.Offseason ankle surgery, broken ribs suffered in the preseason, a rebuilt offensive line and receiving corps, plus a December car crash contributed to Newton’s worst year as a pro. His 262 completions, 3,127 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns and 539 rushing yards in 2014 were all career lows.Newton will head into 2015 healthy, with an improved line and receivers, and he’ll likely be playing in hopes of receiving a richer long-term contract than the Panthers would have to currently offer.NFL Network will continue unveiling rankings over the next few weeks. At least two Panthers have made the list since 2011.201573. QB Cam Newton89. TE Greg Olsen201415. LB Luke Kuechly24. QB Cam Newton53. DE Greg Hardy93. C Ryan Kalil201346. QB Cam Newton79. 1. I think they struggle to label Newton and it causes an undervaluation of his abilities. As a QB he is kinda pedestrian, id say average. But, Newton is so much more than just a QB, he is a full on “Offensive Weapon.” He can do more than orchestrate the offense and throw the ball. And I think that at times that hurts his image when he is being viewed and compared to other franchise QBs, particularly the Brady, Mannings, and Rodgers of the leage that can only operate behind the line.

  3. Not to mention the total lack of knowledge the “analyst” there have. It seems to me like a great big family is keeping it in the freinds and family as far as hiring anyone with an eye for talent.
