Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

TRANSCRIPT: Daryl Williams Conference Call

RE: What he brings to the table as a player“First of all, I would like to thank God, Jesus Christ my lord and savior. I would like to thank the organization for drafting me today, my family I thank them too. To get to your question, the type of player I am, I’m nasty, I’m a road-grader, I’m technically sound. So hopefully my assets could help the Panthers out.”RE: Dealings with Panthers leading up to the draft“First I met them at the Senior Bowl, the scouts and such. Then Coach (Ray) Brown came and worked me out, probably a couple of weeks ago. He worked out me, Tyrus (Thompson), and Adam (Shead). So that’s pretty much it.”RE: His relationship with Ray Brown during the draft process“He is a funny guy, but he also knows what he’s talking about. Especially with all the experience, I think he said he played for 19 years. Yes, definitely, I love Coach Brown.”RE: On being mean or nasty“I’m mean when it’s lights, camera, action. When it’s time to play football, or when it’s football related.”RE: His high school football experience in Dallas“I know my toughest competition was Stephon Tuitt (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Alex Okafor (Arizona Cardinals).”RE: His recruiting process coming out of high school“I had pretty much every Big 12 offer, besides Texas. Miami offered me, Auburn, schools in California, Oregon offered me. I kind of wanted to stay close to family and Oklahoma was the best fit because it us such a prestigious school.”RE: Not being drafted in the second or third rounds“I’m not going to lie I was devastated. Yesterday was a long day. Hey, they traded up for me today, someone drafted me, it was the Panthers, and I thank them for that. All I need is an opportunity.”RE: Panthers trading three picks to draft him“I didn’t know they gave up three; I knew they traded up for me. I didn’t know they gave up three picks. That shows a lot. Like I said, again I am thankful for them for drafting me.”RE: Playing left tackle in 2014 Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama“I’m obviously more comfortable at right tackle, but it doesn’t matter. I’m going to come in and work for a job. Wherever they want me to go. I’m here just helping my teammates. I’m comfortable at left tackle, but like I said I am more comfortable at right tackle.”RE: Discussing playing at right tackle with Panthers“No, we have not gone into detail like that. As far as I know I still have to earn a job. Wherever they put me is wherever I’ll play. I’m trying to earn my spot.”RE: Having a draft party last night“That was yesterday, it was like the draft get together with my whole family. Like I said, it was kind of devastating I didn’t get drafted yesterday. I’m still hella thankful for today, so it doesn’t matter.”RE: Experience of not getting drafted during draft party“It wasn’t a party necessarily, it was just like a get together. We had a lot of food and drinks, but I was just sitting there waiting for my name to be called and a phone call. It didn’t happen. I was obviously kind of mad about it. That’s why my family is here for it, to support me and tell me to still keep the faith. That’s what they’re doing, and that’s why I love them.”RE: What he knows about Charlotte and the Panthers“No, I’ve never been to Charlotte. I just know about the players that play for the Panthers, some of them. So, it’s going to be a new experience for me.”
