Opening Statement“You guys know I couldn’t get through a draft without a hog mollie. Daryl is big, he’s powerful, he’s got good enough athletic ability, long-armed kid with big gloves. He’s exactly what we’re looking for. We had a third-round value on him, and he was too good to pass up. He gives us position flexibly, versatility … He’s got unusual point-of-attack power and he’s got more than enough athletic ability to do the combo stuff, get in space, do those things and do the pass pro. So, I’m very, very pleased we were able to get him.”RE: If he is getting ‘addicted’ to trading“The fact that we sat tight in free agency last year and didn’t binge because of the late $5 million jump in the cap. We held our water, and we ended up getting two fifth round comps out of it, and that gives us the ability to do it. We did not give up a draft pick in next year’s draft. That was one thing we were not going to do.”RE: If Williams has ability to play tackle on either side“He’s played 34 of his 35 starts at right tackle. He had one left tackle start. He’s going to get work on both sides if that answers your question. We’re going to work on both sides.”RE: If Williams could move to left side“It’s possible. Let me clear that up. Do I want a guy with great left tackle feet? Who doesn’t. But, there’s plenty of tackles in this league, productive left tackles, that don’t have classic left tackle athletic ability.”RE: What separates Williams from Tyrus Thompson who played left tackle for Oklahoma“Well, [Assistant Offensive Line Coach] Ray [Brown] worked them both out and felt stronger about Daryl than Tyrus, that’s all.”RE: If Williams is the type of player to start right awayDG: “He’s going to challenge. We’ve spoken to Mike [Remmers], and [he] knows that first day Ron blows the whistle, he’s walking out there as the right tackle starter.”
