Joe Webb, Panthers’ Swiss Army Knife, Agrees to 2-Year Deal

The Wolfpack will be back.

With Cam Newton and Derek Anderson already under contract, the Carolina Panthers' quarterback trio was in danger of breaking up. But that was settled Tuesday, a day before Joe Webb would have become an unrestricted free agent:

While Webb is listed as a quarterback, he hasn't attempted a pass since he was with the Vikings in 2011.

Signed by the Panthers ahead of the 2014 season as Newton insurance, Webb has turned himself into an NFL Swiss Army knife. For a team that covets versatility, Webb's additional roles as a fifth receiver and special teams ace make him much more valuable than a typical third quarterback.

Webb's close relationship with his fellow P.I.G. loving quarterbacks and his popularity with the rest of the locker room also made his re-signing almost a no-brainer for a front office and coaching staff that consistently preaches about chemistry.
