Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin was on Thursday named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month for September. While it’s a neat thing for the organization and fans, Benjamin was not impressed.

Transcript From Part of Benjamin’s Thursday Interviews
Q: Does the award matter to you?
A: “Not at all.”
Q: If they give you something for the award, would you just keep it in the bottom of your locker?
A: “I’ll probably give it to my mom. She likes to keep all those awards.”
Q: How many awards do you think you’ve won in your life?
A: “A lot. I don’t know. It’s a lot.”
Q: Have you kept any?
A: “No, my mom has them all. She loves them.”
Q: Even your National Championship ring?
A: “Yup. She loves all that stuff. She still has my room decorated the same as it was in high school.”
At least head coach Ron Rivera has been impressed by Benjamin’s 21-catch, 329-yard, three-touchdown start. Sort of.
“When he got here and just started going the way he did at training camp, it was not too big for him,” Rivera said. “The kid’s doing a great job. He’s by no means where we want him to be but he’s outdone the expectations.”
