- Among the Panthers’ contingent watching Tuesday’s practices: general manager Dave Gettleman, director of football operations Brandon Beane, director of college scouting Don Gregory and senior offensive assistant John Ramsdell. Ron Rivera is a one of a handful of head coaches who won’t be here this week.
- Eagles coach Chip Kelly is among the head coaches who are here, and he spent the entire practice in the back of an end zone with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Judging by the accounts of some in the Philadelphia media, it’s almost like Kelly has an invisible bubble around him, and very few outsiders are allowed in.
- Baylor QB Bryce Petty had a rough first practice. Of course, it’s tough to judge many players fairly, especially quarterbacks who haven’t had a chance to get their timing down with receivers, but Petty was all over the place.
- Duke WR Jamison Crowder was arguably the day’s standout. At 5-9, 175, he was one of the smallest players on the field, but he blew past defensive backs and caught a number of intermediate routes.
- East Carolina WR Justin Hardy was solid, but he also has a huge advantage this week going through many of his reps with East Carolina QB Shane Carden.
- Baylor WR Antwan Goodley was highly impressive. One of the knocks on him is inconsistent hands, but he caught everything.
- Pittsburgh T T.J. Cummings was the guy everyone wanted to see on the offensive line, but Penn State T Donovan Smith stood out.
- Stanford DE Henry Anderson, who’s 6-6, 287, towered over the rest of the defensive line. He showed impressive quickness despite his size.
- Washington DT Danny Shelton, who’s 6-1, 339 pounds, is a very intriguing ‘hog mollie.’
- Miami (OH) CB Quinten Rollins didn’t stand out, but his story is one of the most unique at the Senior Bowl. Rollins played four years of college basketball at Miami and then a Ravens scout convinced him to try football. During his one season as a CB, he led the MAC with seven interceptions. Oh, and there’s talk he could wind up as a first-round pick three months from now.
- If NFL teams are looking for tight ends, it will be hard for them to find one on the North’s roster.
- Under Armour had a worse day than even Petty or the tight ends. Numbers quickly peeled off many of the player’s jerseys, not a good look for the Senior Bowl’s apparel sponsor.
- Didn’t see entire South practice because of timing and logistics, but will have observations from that group’s practice on Wednesday.
