The Panthers returned to the postseason last year behind their 2nd-ranked defense. And while that unit has most of its parts still intact, it’s been picked apart the last month.
Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy remains in NFL limbo, and it’s unlikely he’ll be back anytime soon. So it’s up to the guys currently on the roster to figure out how they can turn the switch back to a defense that somewhat resembles last year’s bunch.
Below is a look at where the Panthers ranked after Week 6 last year, and where they stand heading into Sunday’s game in Green Bay.
| After Week 6 | 2013 | NFL Rank | 2014 | NFL Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yards Allowed | 299.2 | 3rd | 392.5 | 26th |
| Points Allowed | 13.6 | 2nd | 26.2 | 24th |
| Rushing Yards Allowed | 88.8 | 4th | 140.2 | 26th |
| Passing Yards Allowed | 210.4 | 7th | 252.3 | 20th |
