Highlights from Carolina cornerback Josh Norman's comments after the Panthers’ win over the Eagles.
People keep doubting you guys yet you keep winning?
"Sal Paolantonio said it's in the bag, right? Well, he can take his bag and go barf in it. That's how I really feel to be honest with it. I think it's the flavor of the week. Everybody continues to doubt our team. As you can see, it was a team win again tonight. I really even know how to explain that, but if you watched, you can see defense flying to the ball, offense making plays, special teams. I can't say enough about Brad Nortman. A couple fair catches, big plays, kept them down there in the zone. They had to drive all the way down the field, 90 yards each drive, all game. Everybody doing their job and contributing as a team and as a whole. We're going to continue to take this through. We got Monday night with the Colts. We're going to enjoy this for a couple days then get back in the film room and library and go to work."
How did you take advantage of the crowd noise tonight?
"We embrace it. We love it. It's our home turf. That thing was packed tonight. It was live and electric. It was fun. The atmosphere, everybody in there with the white towels rolling. From the start to the end, we had to continue to go through that. We have two more homes games and keep it going with the crowd and fans."
Do you miss having people throw the ball your way?
"I kinda do; I'm not going to lie. At first I was like, man, but now I kind of do. I want to be a part of the game. Now it's trying to find other ways. Coming up in the run and setting the edge, taking on a block, trying to stay over the top. If I see something then try to go steal it. A couple more plays that we had near the end zone, I batted a ball away on one of them. Shoot, I'm kind of mad about that one."
What did you see on that play?
"I saw where it was a quick switch; tight end was running. I can't believe Bradford threw the ball. I was right there underneath him. I thought he was going to throw it on the back shoulder and that's why I was trailing him then he threw it inside so I had to make a play on it. I couldn't really go with my other hand, even though I was thinking it at the time. Knock it down and they got three points. It was big going into halftime."
Sean McDermott mentioned teams would test you as a tackler and they did it again tonight. What'd you think of that?
"I know, like I said, I have to find ways to get involved. I came and set the edge on a couple plays. I got the tackle and stood him up and hammered it back inside for Luke and the linebackers to come through and fold inside. Some of them I chopped and took the legs out from under them so I was trying to give a different look and feel. I came up on that screen play so fast. I kinda felt like they were going to do something like that with No. 13 off the ball from studying and knowing situations. I still have to be better in certain areas when I see the run coming up. I have to be a force there so the linebackers can go down and make those big-time tackles."
What have you seen from Kawann Short over these past few games?
"He is a destructive force. When you can give time to the d-line, that guy is going to eat up there. He's going to have fun. Him and Star Lotulelei, I love those guys. I give them hugs everyday. They make our job easier. If we can hold the ball long enough for them to go in there and do their thing. I hope he gets another defensive player of the week again. He'll tie me. We got competition with the d-line. It's fun when you have guys like that and you love up on them and it's a brothership and a camaraderie and we love up on each other. KK is the guy, he's the man."
How would you describe Mike Tolbert's catch and touchdown run?
"It was big. I'd describe it as the CCU connect. Tolbert got it. You give him the ball and he just rolls people off of him. He's like a big bowling ball. He was like that back at Coastal so it was nothing different to see that."
Would you like to tackle him?
"I'd definitely have to go super low on him. I can't go up high because he'd continue to run, run, run. We have to get those big, choppy legs of his. If we would do that, then I think could give myself a chance."
How does Tolbert's play describe this team?
"Resilient. The dude has a motor. He doesn't stop. He has the keep pounding in him. When you keep pounding regardless of any adversary coming your way, you throw them off and go to the next one, and that's what Big Mike did. It was awesome to see. It was love and I came and embraced him like big guy on campus."
Do you want someone to pick the Colts to win next week?
"Yes, sir, I do. Give me some ammo."
How does 6-0 feel?
"It feels awesome. As you see the guys in here are having fun. We're a bunch of family with each other. It's an awesome feeling when you have fun playing with each other and not doubting one another. Always having that confidence that we're going to get this play and be alright."
How does the defense draw off of the play of Thomas Davis?
"He got that motor, man. He's one of the captains. You can see that fire and drive and we keep him young. We play fast and he has to play fast. He always plays fast and wants to one-up somebody. He has that fire and desire to get to the play before Luke does. That competition makes them the back linebacker combo in the league. He loaded ol' buddy in half. That looked pretty bad and that's what you get from Thomas Davis. It's that fire. Every time you get a guy like that, regardless of his age, you can't put a stamp on it right there."
How about Jared Allen's first sack as a Panther?
"He did the cowboy, rope 'em up. Jared Allen was a great addition to us. He came in and fit well with the scheme and the defense and it's a freshness he brought. His enthusiasm for the game, he is fun to be around. He came here like a cowboy, and I said, 'Oh yeah, that's my guy right there.' It was fun seeing him get that and rope that cattle up. Fun atmosphere with fans and crowds."
What cowboy stuff did you talk to him about?
"We had a walk going into practice and he was talking about the land that he got and all the stuff he's trying to do. He grew up around horses his whole life. That conversation we had off of the field got to know more of Jared Allen as a person and he's pretty cool."
