RB Cameron Artis-Payne had arguably his best performance since coming to Carolina. Even though it was the fourth preseason game, he looked the part of a feature back rushing for 77 yards on 18 carries while adding 18 yards on a couple receptions.
TE Beau Sandland was pushed into Webb while trying to make a block early in the second quarter. Sandland, who finished the preseason without a reception, then picked up a holding penalty midway through the fourth quarter.
DT Vernon Butler was credited with three tackles, but the first-round pick was much more disruptive than the box score implies.
LB Jeremy Cash led the Panthers with seven total tackles, including one on special teams. Cash also forced at least one fumble, and he may have caused another that was credited to LB Jared Norris.
CB Bené Benwikere had a nice pass breakup on a deep ball from QB Landry Jones to WR Darrius Heyward-Bey.
P Andy Lee landed his first punt as a Panther at the Pittsburgh 8-yard line. The 3-time Pro Bowler had two other punts — one that had enough hang time to force a turnover and another that landed inside the 20.
