Panthers Lend Support for Mike Tolbert After Death of Family Member

Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert missed Thursday's practice to attend the funeral of a family member, but he didn't have to make the trip alone.

According to an Instagram post by defensive end Charles Johnson, he joined linebacker Thomas Davis, general manager Dave Gettleman and player engagement director Mark Carrier on a flight to Georgia with Tolbert. Johnson added, "Thanks to Big Cat for the PJ," which presumably means owner Jerry Richardson let the group use his private jet.

Me and @td58 was glad to come support @yogidagreat35 and his family. Praying for ya brother. Thanks to Big Cat for the PJ

It's interesting to note that when former running back DeAngelo Williams gave his exit interview to WBTV back in February, he created a stir when he claimed Richardson didn't immediately contact him after his mother passed away.

"Nobody came to the funeral. The owner didn't reach out; he didn't say anything," Williams said.

He later amended that claim by saying former defensive end Greg Hardy was the only teammate who went to his mother's funeral. Williams also said the situation sparked a new policy for how the team would handle the loss of family members.
