Panthers receiver Kelvin Benjamin is inching closer to being cleared to play against the Packers.
The NFL’s leading rookie wideout in both receptions and touchdowns is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Green Bay. The next step he needs to get past is a test with an independent neurologist.
Benjamin, who continues to progress through the NFL’s concussion protocol, participated in Friday’s walk-through wearing pads and a helmet. He was limited, but it was the first time he caught passes during a practice this week.
“I thought he practiced well. He was sharp,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “He took a lot of reps today, which I understand is part of the protocol — to have him go out, practice, see how he does, and then evaluate later.”
Benjamin suffered a concussion when he was hit by Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict after making a catch early in the second quarter of last week’s tie in Cincinnati.
After coming out of the game, Benjamin passed a concussion test on the sideline and returned after missing two plays.
