Week 14 Panthers Fantasy Football Outlook

Say No To Newton This Week

Panthers QB Cam Newton played up to his price tag against the Saints, finishing as the second-highest scoring QB on FantasyDraft.

Like last Sunday, he enters this week as the second-most expensive QB, behind New England’s Tom Brady. Unlike last week, Newton faces a tough matchup.

The Falcons are allowing the second-fewest points to opposing QBs (13.8), so we wouldn’t bet on Newton replicating his huge performance against the Saints. There are many QB options with lower price tags and great matchups this week, allowing you to save some money for other positions.

Stewart Is A Smart Play

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart finished 14th among running backs in scoring last week, outplaying his 18th-ranked salary. This week, Stewart is the 9th-most expensive back, but he’s facing a Falcons’ defense that’s allowed the most touchdowns to opposing RBs (13).

Stewart has 20 or more carries in eight straight games, and unless the Panthers finally start limiting his attempts, this week won’t be any different. He’ll likely outplay his salary again.

Play Olsen At Your Own Risk

We predicted Panthers TE Greg Olsen would have a strong showing against the Saints, and we weren’t wrong. He finished atop the TE leaderboard with 23.90 points on FantasyDraft.

With Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski still dealing with a knee injury, Olsen is this week’s top TE. The Falcons are mediocre against the position, so this one is a toss-up. We’d put Olsen’s floor as his performance against the Bucs in Week 4 (two receptions, 28 yards).

Panthers’ Defense

At $6,600, Carolina’s DST is the fourth-most expensive unit this week. Regardless of salary, we consider them a must-sit against the Falcons. Atlanta’s offense is fifth in yards per game and 14th in points. They also have the top PPR WR in Julio Jones and the top PPR RB in Devonta Freeman.

Falcons’ Offense

The Falcons have sputtered lately, though. Freeman hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown since Week 7 and Jones hasn’t found the end zone since Week 9. But both are the focal points of the offense, so expect them to get their fair share of touches.

Fantasy Sleepers Around The League

Bucs QB Jameis Winston [FantasyDraft salary – $10,900]

Winston, who’s accounted for nine touchdowns the past three weeks, faces the terrible Saints’ secondary. Winston is one of the cheapest starting QBs and we think he’ll put up big points..

Bucs TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins [FantasyDraft salary – $5,200]

ASJ is returning from injury and saw six targets last week despite only playing 21 snaps. Winston and ASJ could replicate what Newton and Olsen did last week. Plus, ASJ only $200 away from being the cheapest TE available.

Browns RB Isaiah Crowell [FantasyDraft salary – $6,700]

The 49ers are terrible against RBs, with 15 total touchdowns allowed to opposing backs this year. Cleveland’s rushing attack is bad, but the 49ers’ rushing defense might be worse. In this battle of attrition, I pick Cleveland.

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin [FantasyDraft Salary = $8,800]

After Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham went down with an injury, Baldwin has found the end zone five times. He’s coming off back-to-back multi-touchdown games and faces a Ravens’ defense that’s allowed the second-most touchdowns to opposing receivers.
