Week 8 Panthers Fantasy Football Outlook
Newton No Longer A Value Play
For most of the season, Cam Newton‘s FantasyDraft salary has been hovering around the bottom half of top-10 QBs. With a favorable matchup against the Colts’ defense, Newton’s the 4th-most expensive QB this week with a salary of $13,900.
He could put up strong numbers, but QB has been a position you can have success with by using players with low salaries. Newton is a safe play this week (he should put up top-5 numbers), but his increased salary, there are likely better values on the board.
Stewart Has Found His Stride
RB Jonathan Stewart’s salary of $8,800 is a good value going up against the Colts’ 25th-ranked run defense. For comparison, that’s cheaper than both Packers RBs as well as Texans RB Arian Foster, who’s on IR. Just cross your fingers that FB Mike Tolbert doesn’t steal all the short yardage TDs.
Olsen Getting His Respect
In the Sunday – Monday tourney, Greg Olsen is the most expensive TE on FantasyDraft – $2,300 more than the second highest expensive TE. In comparison, Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham is $3,500 less than Olsen. Something to think about.
Sleeper
WR Tedd Ginn – [FantasyDraft Salary= $6,600]
Ginn Jr’s salary is only $600 above the lowest possible on FantasyDraft. Combine that with the fact that he’s going up against the 25th-ranked Colts’ defense and Ginn has potential sleeper written all over him.
Colts’ Offensive Outlook
I’ve had a hard time starting any player going up against the Carolina DST in Daily Fantasy Football. Too many other players are going up against worse defenses. This week, it’s no different. As a whole, the Colts’ offense has been underperforming, and no player is a solid guaranteed start.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Sleepers Around the League
Cardinals RB Chris Johnson [FantasyDraft Salary: $8,800]
Johnson can’t get any respect. He’s the second-leading rusher in the NFL and has the highest yards per carry (5.1) of any RB with at least 100 carries, yet he has the 22nd-highest salary at his position this week. He’s facing the Browns’ 27th-ranked Cleveland defense who have allowed a 100-yard rusher in three consecutive weeks, so look for Johnson to continue his success.
Cardinals WR Michael Floyd [FantasyDraft Salary: $6,800]
Arizona’s offense has been putting up solid numbers each week and Sunday won’t be any different going up against Cleveland. In recent weeks, Floyd has been on the field for 70 percent of the snaps and has recorded a touchdown over his past two games.
Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick [FantasyDraft Salary: $10,500]
If you’ve been reading this post each week, then you know our sleeper QB picks have been pretty spot on. Fitzpatrick is only $500 more than least-expensive QB and he’s thrown for multiple touchdowns in five of his last six games. We’ll take the savings and Fitzpatrick going up against the 29th-ranked Raiders’ pass defense.
Titans RB Antonio Andrews [FantasyDraft Salary: $6,400]
While the Tennessee backfield situation is murky, Andrews will likely receive a bulk of the carries and short-yardage work. Houston’s defense is allowing nearly 130 yards and a touchdown on the ground per game, so the potential is there for Andrews to have a breakout day.
Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore [FantasyDraft salary = $6,000]
Gillmore is out deepest sleeper this week. He tied WR Steve Smith for most targets in Baltimore last Sunday and he’s trending toward becoming a legitimate fantasy starter. Gillmore is the cheapest TE available and is facing a Chargers’ defense that is below average against opposing tight ends.
