Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

What They’re Saying About the Panthers: Fri., Oct. 30

A look at Carolina Panthers-related news and nuggets from around the web.

Danny Shimon of National Football Post argues Ron Rivera is one of the NFL’s best coaches:

The Panthers are molded into the team Rivera wants which revolves around a tough physical defense, and an offense that will pound the ball with its rushing attack, and take shots downfield once they have the opposing defense geared up to stuff the run. They are well coached and tough minded individuals that take on the personality of their head coach.

There is nothing flashy about the Panthers and that’s just fine by them, as the only thing that matters is recording victories on Sundays.

Dan Pompei of BleacherReport.com tracks Josh Norman‘s ascension to elite status:

Norman became a special project for Panthers defensive backs coach Steve Wilks. They locked horns some, because Wilks, more than anyone, refused to tell Norman what he wanted to hear. Wilks had so much he wanted to convey to Norman, and it was best conveyed man-to-man. Over time, they had more and more regular one-on-one meetings.

David Newton of ESPN.com details Norman’s next challenge:

If Norman is asked to shadow Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton the way he has the top receiver for most teams this season, it’ll be almost impossible for Luck to avoid him.

Hilton has been targeted an average of 10.5 times per game, including 15 last week against New Orleans.

Erik Malinowski of Uproxx.com is buying what the Panthers are selling:

We can now safely conclude that the 6-0 Carolina Panthers, a half-game in front of the almost-equally surprising Atlanta Falcons for first place in the continually competitive NFC South, are going to be a force for the remainder of this season. There’s simply no other conclusion to be drawn. Pick up your chips because Riverboat Ron has already eyed your pai gow table from across the floor and you might as well cash out while you can.

The Panthers will keep pounding? You better believe.

imagesChase Stuart of the Washington Post examines why Carolina gets the “Rodney Dangerfield” treatment:

The Carolina Panthers have won 10 consecutive regular season games, the first team to do so since the Denver Broncos’ 17-game winning streak ended in the team’s seventh game of the 2013 season.  But the Panthers’ streak is just as remarkable for how little fanfare it has generated.  Despite not having lost a regular season game since November 2014, Carolina is rarely viewed as a top-three team in the NFL.

Joe Menzer of Panthers.com catches up with Jake Delhomme:

The last quarterback to guide the Panthers to a 5-0 start before Cam Newton accomplished it this season was Jake Delhomme in 2003. A recent inductee into the state of Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, Delhomme now lives in Breaux Bridge, La., where he spends the majority of his time breeding, buying and selling racehorses; working in the banking industry; and coaching his two daughters in various sports.
