Stats and Superlatives: Panthers Drop Sixth Straight

The Panthers:

  • Have lost six games in a row for the first time since they dropped seven straight from Weeks 8-14 in 2010.
  • Have been outscored 249-116 in their eight losses this season.
  • Are 0-5 (including last season’s playoff loss) after a bye under coach Ron Rivera. They have been outscored 125-46 in those five losses.
  • Allowed 30+ points for the sixth time this season. They gave up 30+ points once last year (31 vs. Saints).
  • Have scored 30 points in the first quarter and 72 points in the first half this year. Both are the fewest totals in the NFL.
  • Had a punt blocked for the first time since the Bucs did it on 9/9/12.
  • Had a blocked punt returned for a touchdown for the first time since the Bucs did it on 10/12/08.
  • Had two punts blocked for the second time in franchise history. The other was against the Giants on 12/28/03.
  • Have had 20 turnovers in their 10 games since going turnover-free against the Bucs and Lions.
  • Have just 11 takeaways after they forced six turnovers in their 2-0 start.
  • Gained 178 rushing yards, the most since they had 194 against the Giants in Week 3 last season.
  • Played in the second-coldest game in franchise history. The 12-degree kickoff temperature ranks behind the NFC Championship game on 1/12/97, when it was 3 degrees in Green Bay.
  • Fell to 2-7 in games played when the kickoff temperature was 32 degrees or colder.

The Vikings:

  • Became the fifth NFL team to return two blocked punts for touchdowns in a game. The last team to do it was the Chiefs against the Browns on 9/30/1990.
  • Became the second NFL team to return two blocked punts for touchdowns in a half. The only other team to do it was the Lions against the Packers on 9/21/1975.

Panthers:

  • QB Cam Newton set a team record by throwing an interception in his eighth-straight game. He had no interceptions in his first three games this season.
  • RB Jonathan Stewart had 85 rushing yards, the most since he had 88 against the Bucs on 12/24/11. His 110 total yards were the most since he had 139 against the Cardinals on 12/19/10.
  • RB DeAngelo Williams averaged 3.0 yards on seven carries. His 3.5 yards-per-carry this season is the worst average of his career.
  • WR Philly Brown caught his second touchdown pass in as many games.
  • WR DeAndre Presley had his first career NFL touch. His lost two yards on a reverse.
  • DE Charles Johnson, who did not have a sack in his first four games this season, has six in his last eight games.
  • LB Luke Kuechly had two sacks. He previously had just four in his career.

Vikings:

  • QB Teddy Bridgewater had a career-high 120.7 passer rating. The rookie’s previous best was 98.9 in Week 4 against the Falcons.
