Things Carolina Panthers' first-round defensive tackle Vernon Butler revealed at his introductory press conference Friday afternoon.
1) He Wasn't Picky About His New Number
Butler wore No. 9 at Louisiana Tech, but that's not an option for defensive linemen in the NFL. Plus, he may have had some trouble getting it:
Welcome to the team @Nino_Black_9 ! Good thing DL can't wear single digit numbers. I thought I might have to fight you for #9 👊😰😂

So Butler, who's expected to fill Dwan Edwards' role in the rotation, took Edwards' former No. 92.
Why?
"Cause that's what they had left. I didn't want one of them 70 numbers."
2) He Won't Be Replacing Josh Norman as the Locker Room's Best Quote
We got a hint of this one on Butler's conference call last night. He's soft spoken and says the right things, just like the Panthers' past four first-round picks: Luke Kuechly, Star Lotelelei, Kelvin Benjamin and Shaq Thompson.
"I'm just an easy-going person. Easy to get along with, someone you like to have around."
3) He's a Sneakerhead
We knew this one last night, too. But he's especially fond of Jordans. He owns "about 30" of those.
Butler said the Balenciaga's he was wearing Friday were his most prized pair of shoes, even though he brought out some Louis Vuitton's Thursday night in Chicago.
4) He Was a Ravens' Fan Growing Up
Butler was raised in McComb, MS, about two hours from New Orleans. But he rooted for Baltimore, or more specifically, Ray Lewis.
5) His Town's Draft Party Was at Church
McComb is a tiny town of about 15,000 people.
"Everybody knows everybody around there."
So everybody gathered Thursday night at Butler's church, New Life Fellowship, to see the small-town kid walk across the big stage.
