Carolina Panthers scouts and coaches are currently bouncing around the country doing their due diligence ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft. Wednesday’s schedule took them to Georgia where receiver Chris Conley and six other former Bulldogs performed in their Pro Day.Running back Todd Gurley did not work out, but he shared some interesting news afterward:[vc_row_inner no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_raw_html]JTNDYmxvY2txdW90ZSUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTIydHdpdHRlci10d2VldCUyMiUyMGxhbmclM0QlMjJlbiUyMiUzRSUzQ3AlM0VHdXJsZXklMjBzYXlzJTIwaGUlMjYlMjMzOSUzQmQlMjBsaWtlJTIwdG8lMjBiZSUyMHJlYWR5JTIwdG8lMjBnbyUyMGZvciUyMG1pbmljYW1wLiUyMEFsc28lMjBzYWlkJTIwaGUlMjYlMjMzOSUzQnMlMjB2aXNpdGluZyUyMCUzQ2ElMjBocmVmJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZ0d2l0dGVyLmNvbSUyRmhhc2h0YWclMkZQYW50aGVycyUzRnNyYyUzRGhhc2glMjIlM0UlMjNQYW50aGVycyUzQyUyRmElM0UlMjB0b21vcnJvdyUyMGFuZCUyMGFib3V0JTIwNSUyMG90aGVycy4lMjAlM0NhJTIwaHJlZiUzRCUyMmh0dHAlM0ElMkYlMkZ0LmNvJTJGVUswN2RXUk1FRSUyMiUzRXBpYy50d2l0dGVyLmNvbSUyRlVLMDdkV1JNRUUlM0MlMkZhJTNFJTNDJTJGcCUzRSUyNm1kYXNoJTNCJTIwTWVyaXNzYSUyMEx5bm4lMjAlMjglNDBNZXJpc3NhRk9YNSUyOSUyMCUzQ2ElMjBocmVmJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZ0d2l0dGVyLmNvbSUyRk1lcmlzc2FGT1g1JTJGc3RhdHVzJTJGNTc4MjM1MTY5OTA5NDIwMDMzJTIyJTNFTWFyY2glMjAxOCUyQyUyMDIwMTUlM0MlMkZhJTNFJTNDJTJGYmxvY2txdW90ZSUzRSUwQSUzQ3NjcmlwdCUyMGFzeW5jJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyJTJGJTJGcGxhdGZvcm0udHdpdHRlci5jb20lMkZ3aWRnZXRzLmpzJTIyJTIwY2hhcnNldCUzRCUyMnV0Zi04JTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGc2NyaXB0JTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html]Gurley was a Heisman Trophy contender before he tore his ACL in November. Despite the injury, the Tarboro, N.C. native could still go off the board in the first round. It would surprise many if the Panthers took a running back at No. 25, but with Jonathan Stewart’s injury history and DeAngelo Williams’ release, Gurley could be an intriguing option.

Gurley at #25 wouldn’t surprise me, because they must find a featured bell cow RB to be J-Stew’s backup this season, and sharing carries with him, until J-Stew leaves in a few years. It would be a smart move to draft Gurley at #25, if he’s still available, because he’s clearly the best RB in the draft, and all the RB’s in the draft have issues that could derail their NFL careers.
Big RB’s (215 pounds or more):
Todd Gurley – His recovery from ACL surgery.
Melvin Gordon III – Around 1/4 of his carries went for no gain, or lost yardage, and some fumble problems (1 per every 54.4 carries.
Jay Ajayi – He’s not that fast (4.57-40, with a 1.59-10), and a high amount of fumbles (1 per every 62.6 carries), and past off-field issues.
T. J. Yeldon – He’s not very fast (4.61-40, with a 1.63-10), a history of minor injuries, fumble issues (1 per every 62.2 carries), and he may have left his best years behind at Alabama.
Mike Davis – Not that fast (4.61-40), but a good 1.53-10, but his production took a big dip in 2014.
Buck Allen – He’s not explosive, and takes a lot of hard hits by running straight up.
David Johnson – A low level of competition at Northern Iowa, he’s a little timed as a runner, and runs high.
Small RB’s (under 215 pounds):
Ameer Abdullah – He was unexpectedly slow at the Combine (4.60-40, with a 1.60-10), but great change of direction numbers (6.79-3 cone and a 3.95-20 yard shuttle), with major fumble problems (1 per every 35.7 carries).
Duke Johnson – He’s not as fast as advertised (4.54-40, with a 1.60-10) and has a longer than usual injury history.
Tevin Coleman – He hasn’t worked out yet, is another upright RB, leading to durability concerns.
Jeremy Langford – He has good straight-line speed (4.42-40, 1.55-10), but below average change of direction speed (7.22-3 cone, and a 4.32-20 yard shuttle).
If G-man does draft Gurley in the 1st round, then they might have to trade up in the 2nd round to get a LT.

Being a run first offense I would love to land a beast type back like Gurley. Our Oline showed promise of having a good running offense this coming year, especially if Oher or a drafted LT works out. I love Stew and Fozzy but we can’t depend on them to stay healthy, plus we need that beast back for the future.
IMO Jeremy Hill was the best back in last years draft. He’s that beast type back like Gurley. Getting the run game going will take pressure off of Cam and open up the passing game. IMO it would be huge to land this type back, especially in Shula’s type offense.
