RE: If he was surprised about the officials not calling the low-hit on him
I’m speechless. But next question.
RE: When he thinks officials will start calling hits on him
I don’t know but… it’s not fun. It’s not fun. It’s really taken the fun out of the game for me, honestly. It really is because at times, I don’t even feel safe. Right? And enough is enough. I plan on talking to Commissioner Roger Goodell about this. But it’s not fun and I don’t know what I have to do. I mean I showed a lot of frustration today and I apologized to the referee who I was talking to but I don’t think there is a person that can go through what I go through and still keep their head. You know what I’m saying? Hits to the head, that’s one thing but when you’re not protected in the pocket, that’s another thing. The story of my life ever since I came in is “Oh well, we missed that one. I’m sorry. I’ll try to get it.” That’s bull crap. That’s bull crap. As players in this league, if we do something stupid, we get fined. If we do something derogatory to somebody else, we get fined. And I just can’t keep accepting “Oh, we missed that one,” or “I apologize for doing that,” or “I didn’t see it.” That’s horse crap. That’s horse crap. And coming from a person who has been fined before and coming from a person who a lot is expected from and I’m still growing but yet when you constantly see the hits, when you constantly see flags being picked up, when you constantly see flags not being thrown and to see other quarterbacks getting it, lesser hits, lesser physical hits, then it’s taking the fun for me out. I’m being honest with that.
RE: If he thinks the issue regarding hits not being called is an issue across the league
For me, I have this conversation openly because I’ve talked to numerous people about it. And when I see other guys get calls, they don’t have to be no MVP. They don’t have to be this, that and a third or being this type of tier as a player. I look at how they get hit and for every hit that they get called, I can match a hit in my career that I didn’t get called and that’s all it’s about.
RE: If other players will join him in talking to the commissioner regarding no-call hits
I don’t know. I can’t speak for nobody else. I’m speaking for Cam Newton. And I’m telling you, you asked a question. It’s taken the fun out for me because at times, in games, I do not feel protected by the officials.
RE: If Calais Campbell talked to him after the hit
I don’t know. For me, I was just trying to bite my tongue trying to get through the game because it’s frustrating. It’s nothing that you guys can vouch for. I know people will probably take what I’m saying, some people will take it out of context but you just have to look back and look at it from my vantage point. I play this game one way. I’m no different than anybody else. I’m trying to win football games. And whatever I’m asked to do, that’s what I’m going to do. If Coach calls a run, I’m going to run. If there’s nothing open down the field, I’m going to scramble. But yet, at the end of the day, there are rules set in place that you know, if you get hit like this, if you get hit after the throw, the penalty is supposed to be thrown.
RE: What the breaking point was today to make him feel so strongly regarding no-call hits
I could have torn my ACL. That’s the breaking point.
I draw a parallel between Cam and the POTUS: unprecedented disrespect of the person at that position. But what is different about them…hmmm…there’s just something about them…um, I just can’t put my finger on it…
