Charles Johnson Learns Perils of the Twitterverse

Hopefully, this will put the @randywattson Twitter drama to rest.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson, whose Twitter handle is an ode to "Coming to America," admitted Thursday he should have kept his post-Falcons frustrations in-house.

After Johnson and other starters had been pulled during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 38-0 win, he tweeted:

“Good game overall as a TEAM!!? (W)hat’s the point of having good pass rushers if u sit them at the beginning of the 4 quarter #KeepPounding"

"I thought passer rusher(s) are for situation like today!! Guess not."

Johnson figured the tweets would just come and go through the stream. But in the Twitterverse, much can be lost in translation.

"I’m a humble guy. I’m all about my team. I’m not a 'me' guy, I’m not a selfish guy. I’m always going to put my guys first," Johnson said.

"Who makes a big deal about a guy that wants to be on the field? If we were 2-12, we wouldn’t even be talking about this story."

He's right. That a player would express disappointment after his team improved to 13-0 rubbed some the wrong way. But Johnson wasn't looking to pad stats. He just wants to get some stats, which ultimately, would help the team.

Against his home state Falcons, Johnson didn't have a tackle or a sack. Because of a hamstring injury that cost him eight games, he has just one sack this season, and that came all the way back in Week 1.

"I hold myself to a high standard, so any time I don’t think I’m playing at a high standard, anybody would be frustrated," Johnson said.

"I’ve just got to keep working. That’s all I can do, and I’ll just let my work talk for itself."
