PANTHERS
OUT: TE Richie Brockel (ankle), RB DeAngelo Williams (ankle)
DOUBTFUL: RB Jonathan Stewart (knee)
QUESTIONABLE: TE Ed Dickson (hip)
PROBABLE: DT Colin Cole (not injury related), LB Thomas Davis (hip), DT Dwan Edwards (not injury related), DE Charles Johnson (hip), CB Melvin White (knee), RB Fozzy Whittaker (quad)
Notes:
- With Williams out, and Stewart doubtful, Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker, and Chris Ogbonnaya will share the workload at running back. Since Ogbonnaya was signed just this week, he will likely see the fewest attempts. “Each guy’s going to get some carries early on,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “Like they say, ‘the hot hand,’ and that’s probably what’ll end up happening. If Fozzy starts having one of those games like he did (in the preseason) against Kansas City or Pittsburgh, that can be exciting for us.”
- After missing two days of practice, Johnson returned for Friday’s walkthrough. The Panthers rarely play guys who miss Wednesday and Thursday, but their thin group at end needs Johnson to not only play, but to play well.
- Rivera called Dickson, who’s dealing with a hip flexor, the only game-time decision. But considering Dickson’s status and the fact the Panthers don’t have fullback Mike Tolbert of tight end/fullback Brockel, Brandon Williams will likely get a jersey. He’s been active just twice this season, but he can be used in the role Brockel was supposed to play last week before he suffered a high ankle sprain.
BEARS
OUT: T Jermon Bushrod (knee, ankle), S Ahmad Dixon (hamstring), LB Shea McClellin (hand), DT Jay Ratliff (concussion)
DOUBTFUL: C Roberto Garza (ankle), CB Sherrick McManis (quadricep)
QUESTIONABLE: G Matt Slauson (ankle)
PROBABLE: DE Jared Allen (illness), LB Lance Briggs (knee), S Chris Conte (shoulder), WR Brandon Marshall (ankle), LB D.J. Williams (neck)
Notes:
- After Ravens left tackle James Hurst did a solid job in his NFL debut last week, the Panthers get another crack at a backup left tackle. Bushrod will be replaced by Michael Ola, a former CFL player who’s started the last three games at guard.
- Slauson will return to left guard after his missed three games with an ankle injury.
