  • Roman Harper played 100 percent of the Panthers’ defensive snaps for the first time this season. That’s because Charles Godfrey had to stay at corner nickel after BenĂ© Benwikere left with a right foot injury. Godfrey went from a season-low three snaps last week to a season-high 44.
  • The Panthers were in nickel for 60 of their 64 plays. A week after he got 62 snaps in place of Thomas DavisA.J. Klein did not get in on defense for the first time this season. Chase Blackburn saw the four base defense snaps.
  • A week after he was benched after just 18 snaps, Melvin White played 30 more when Josh Norman was injured in the first quarter.
  • Kawann Short, who had a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, played his second-fewest snaps this season.
  • Mario Addison’s 33 snaps were a season high.
  • Kony Ealy, who was inactive in Week 1, played a season-low 17 snaps.

BlackBlueReview AJ Klein benched for performance?

@earlg3 BlackBlueReview I think this was because they played out of the nickel almost the entire game. Chances that they continue doing this in the future? Also, what about lining KK up at DE more often? Seemed to work.

Bill, how many of those 34 snaps for Short were at DE? he started off slow but in the second half he seemed to be in the backfield a lot more often. It would make sense for him to get less snaps if they were moving him full time (or mostly full time) to DE and build him up over the next few weeks.

RicFlairOGP he said after the game he was at end for about three snaps.

I haven’t watched the film to get a firm number, but it appears as though our two TE sets were up significantly against the Bears compared to the Steelers and Ravens games. Approximately 26 vs Steelers, 23 vs Ravens, and somewhere around 50 vs the Bears. Obviously, the two TE sets are going to help with o-line deficiencies in pass and run blocking, and I think it showed this week. Hope this is a trend that continues.
